The International School of America was founded in 1958 by Karl Jaeger in order to maximize the educational benefits that formal education may derive from international travel.  It aims to create informed world citizens, critical thinkers and leaders who are committed to making environmentally just and sustainable living an enduring value in their lives.

During an 8-month academic year 30-35 university students visit six to eight countries with their own faculty.  They live with host families in each city and meet outstanding guest lecturers, learning first-hand the rich historical and cultural heritage of the countries visited.

The Program is now run by Boston University under the name International Honors Program

The International School of America is developing plans to assist the UK Department of Education in creating a new Charter School in Bath along the lines of the Charter School for which the ISA received approval in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The ISA plans to work with Professor James Lengel of Boston University who is an ISA Board Member.  James Lengel assisted in the design of this student-centred school system.

Now James is working with Cisco and the New York City Department of Education to develop 10 new high schools in New York City which are student-centred, as described in A Day in the Life of a Student.  The Bath Charter School will benefit from any involvement of Professor Lengel and Cisco.
